Everytime granny (gogo’s) set the table and insisted on basic manners while growing up I always found it all annoying. Now that I have grown and have an appreciation for healthy eating habits, I can appreciate her dictates. I find life so much easier when I just stick to gogo’s rules. Some health problems could be non existent if we can stick to basics such as “usadye wakamira (don’t eat while standing)” or “usadye uchitaura (Dont talk while eating)” among others as gogo would mention.
Eating habits play an important role as they can help boost the process of digestion and absorption of maximum nutrients. While a healthy diet is crucial for one’s well-being, it is equally important to pay attention to what you are eating rather than gulping the food down to get a job done. As we start developing good and health eating habits it is important to start with the basics like chewing the food well and eating slowly so we can actually appreciate the flavors in the food. While this may seem simple, thoroughly chewing down the food makes sure it’s properly broken down as it enters the digestive system so that our bodies can better break it down. Taking time to taste and appreciate our food also helps us not to over-eat. This is because eating slowly helps our brain to better sense when we are full so we actually better control our portions, which is one of the biggest secrets to weigh loss.
